This intersection was identified in the Milton Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) as a key intersection improvement. The CTP suggested that both traditional improvements such as turn lanes and signals and non-traditional improvements such as a roundabout may be appropriate for this intersection.
This project consists of public involvement, concept development, database preparation, preliminary plans, right-of-way plans, and final design construction plans for intersection improvements.
Public Involvement is complete. A Public Information Open House was held on April 28, 2011. The information provided at the meeting included: Project Fact Sheet, Concept of Signalized Intersection (10 MB), Concept of Roundabout (10 MB)
Stantec developed traffic simulations for each of the alternative concepts for the intersection of Hopewell, Francis, and Cogburn roads. The simulations are based on existing traffic counts in the AM peak hour and the PM peak hour with a growth rate applied to estimate the volumes in the year 2034. The simulations show the traffic conditions with the planned improvements during the AM and PM peak hours in the year 2034.
The simulations below show the intersection operations with the concept of a Signalized Intersection with Turn Lanes
The simulations below show the intersection operations with the Concept of a Roundabout
Simulation of Roundabout AM Peak (41 MB),
Simulation of Roundabout PM Peak (40 MB)
The simulations below show the intersection operations of a Signalized Intersection WITHOUT Turn Lanes
After the public involvement period and concept development, the single lane roundabout alternative was selected for intersection improvements at this location.
